Learn to Learn

Building simple solutions can sometimes be harder than creating complex ones. It is a paradox, but you can see the results every time a process is harder than it should be.

Embrace Simplicity

One of the goals of Lean, a type of continuous improvement, is to create flow, where work moves start to finish without stopping.

Key Points

Focus on Flow

"Without standards, there can be no improvement." This quote by a famous Lean thinker summarizes the purpose of this principle.

Create Standards

Compartmentalized leadership isn't effective in a company that truly embraces continuous improvement. Thinking in terms of value streams lets you look for global optima rather than just local improvements.

Manage Your Value Stream

Many earlier principles and activities in earlier phases promoted metrics or tracking of some sort. All of those were very specific cases. Now, in this principle, we want you to fully embrace measuring performance as integral to improvement everywhere.
