Summary of Phase Principles

Phase 2 Principles Overview

When assessing problems or opportunities, look within first and focus on what you control. This creates a sense of ownership rather than focusing on outside factors first.

KEY POINTS

Look Within

Continuous Improvement requires a devotion to making decision based on evidence and data. It can be hard for people to let go of the flexibility of gut-feel decisions.

OVERVIEW

WHAT'S THE PROBLEM?

Embrace Facts and Data

This principle simply means being aware of the thought process you are using to make decisions. If you use a framework for your brain-powered functions, you will get better results. For example, use a problem-solving method like 8D or PDCA to develop solutions.

Key Points

Structure Your Thinking

Far too often, people want immediate payoff on their investments, even if the overall return is lower. Having a longer window on outcomes opens up more opportunities.

NEXT STEPS

Think Long Term

This principle acknowledges that you can't independently determine your company's path. The people you want to serve largely dictate your direction. You can influence them, but ultimately, if your customer doesn't value what you do, you will not be successful.
