Understanding the Levels

About "Belts" in Continuous Improvement

Over the years, the progress of people's development in Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement has come to be delineated by using the belt system common to martial arts.

While this system is not standardized, most organizations use the levels in a fairly consistent way. While Velaction follows the same convention as far as level, we do not use the belts as part of a certification process. Rather we use it as a way of organizing content.

Our best membership is named for 'Black Belts' who are the experts in CI and drive change within the company through personal skills, leadership, and the ability to teach.

Guest Membership (FREE): A guest membership lets gives you access to loads of free versions of courses, forms, and other resources. Yellow Belt: Our Yellow Belt Membership is our doorway into the continuous improvement world. It is designed to get frontline employees interested in CI, make them effective at basic CI tools, and help them thrive in a continuous improvement culture.
Green Belt: When an employee is ready to go further, this is the membership for them. It is geared towards junior leaders and those individuals with a greater involvement in CI projects, whether as an expert participant or a project leader.
Black Belt: Our Black Belt Membership shifts from developing yourself as a leader to learning how to develop and lead teams. This membership covers a wide range of content. It focuses on systemic leadership in addition to project-based leadership. And it goes deep into developing people's own talent rather than just putting that talent to effective use.
CI Program Leadership: Our CI Program Leader Membership is geared towards developing systems and infrastructure. It also covers developing the trainers who will spread continuous improvement knowledge throughout the company. This membership contains a load of training materials you can use to build up your company's internal training capability. We recommend at least one of these memberships per company. Most downloads can be shared throughout the company via a permanent corporate license.
